Mermaids Divers go to Koh Chang
Friday 29th November, 15 divers left Mermaids to head off to the island of Koh Chang. The trip down was easy going and in true Mermaids style, taking IT specialists is always handy except when their GPS gets everyone lost on the island, trying to locate the hotel. Eventually the hotel was found and everyone checked in and gathered for dinner and a few relaxing beers.
After breakfast on Saturday and the roller-coaster ride to the pier, 15 minutes away, everyone checked in at the dive center and travelled out to the HTMS Chang. Dive 1 down the bow descent line with vizability up to 25m, gave everyone a great view of the wreck. Making their way to the stern, there was huge shoals of fish and a good 45 minute dive ended with a safety stop on the tower at 5m. Lunch was provided by the dive center followed by Monika’s specialty – homemade apple pie. Dive 2 was again bow to stern and Dive 3 was a nice easy coral dive on Square Rock, which is very similar to the coral sites of Pattaya.
Sunday check out at the hotel and two more dives on the HTMS Chang. This time divers descended on the stern, with some penetrating and others playing on the superstructure which is like a jungle gym. Vizability was about 20m but gradually became 4m the deeper you went. Dive 3 was on Flat Rock, again similar to Pattaya coral sites. After the 3 dives, all departed Koh Chang and had a few beers on the ferry. Everyone was back in Pattaya for about 10pm on Sunday night. Thanks to staff and divers for a fabulous weekend and being great company on the evenings.
